Kennewick and Richland are working together in planning for an extension of Steptoe Street from Gage Boulevard, to Clearwater Avenue and then to 10th Avenue (along the existing Clodfelter Road corridor).
The current north-south arterials (Columbia Center Blvd. and Leslie Road) are at or near capacity during peak hours. Urban growth in the area is expected to continue and the Steptoe Street Corridor was identified in 1995 as the preferred route for the new arterial. The Steptoe Street extension design will strive to incorporate the needs and preferences of residents, and to encourage the community's support for the project.
The Cities of Kennewick and Richland are committed to listening and responding to citizens' suggestions and concerns. A large portion of the project will be dedicated to providing awareness to the public and encouraging concerns to be brought forward. The Cities will hold multiple forums to provide factual and supportable information, listen carefully to what is being said and to respond in a timely and accurate manner.
Efforts will be ongoing throughout the project (Jan. - Aug. 2006) to keep the community informed and seek your participation. This project website and periodic newsletters will also be used to keep the community informed.Multiple opportunities will be available to provide input and comment at various stages in the design process. Neighborhood and general public workshops will be held. In addition, a Comments page has been setup on this website to receive your inquiries and questions throughout the project, as well as a Steptoe Information Line (509.539.9035).
