21. What are the benefits of Extending Steptoe Street to 10th Avenue?
Steptoe Street is planned as an Urban Arterial to provide transportation services to the entire West Kennewick and South Richland Urban Growth Areas. Construction of this project is expected to relieve traffic congestion on major North/South roadways (Leslie Road and Columbia Center Blvd) and to also relieve traffic congestion on East/West roadways (Clearwater Avenue and Gage Blvd). A Traffic Study is in progress that will model vehicle traffic on these roadways for current and future conditions, with and without the construction of the Steptoe Street Extension project. When completed, the Traffic Study will be made available under the Reference Information section of the website (scheduled for May 2006).
