22. Will the existing Steptoe Street area between Gage Blvd and Hwy 240 be changed?
The Cities are not currently planning improvements to the existing Steptoe Street between Gage Blvd and Hwy 240. The intersection of Steptoe Street and Hwy 240 will be changed as a part of the Department of Transportation's project currently underway on Hwy 240. Private developers are proposing changes to the intersection of Steptoe Street and Tapteal Drive that may include the installation of a traffic signal.
As part of the Steptoe Street Extension project, Kennewick and Richland will evaluate the impacts of increased traffic on the turning movements from and onto Steptoe Street and from and onto the side streets between Gage Blvd and Hwy 240. Should conditions be identified which warrant changes to this section of the existing Steptoe Street, the Cities will work together to plan, design, and construct the improvements needed. Warranted improvements may be included in the design of the Steptoe Street Extension project, or may be separately implemented by the Cities.
