23. What other nearby road projects are planned?
Gage Blvd from Leslie Road (West) to Center Parkway (East) is a jointly funded project of the Cities of Kennewick and Richland. The project will complete the curb and sidewalk construction on both sides of the current right-of-way, install deceleration lanes at major intersections, provide storm drainage, paving, and restriping. This project is expected to begin construction in 2006.
Both the City of Kennewick and the City of Richland have long term plans for roadway improvements in the area. Citizens are encouraged to review the City of Kennewick and City of Richland Transportation Improvement Plan's (TIP's) to identify all transportation projects currently being considered by each City. The following provides a brief description of some of those roadway projects that are currently being considered by each City in the area of the Steptoe Street Extension project.
RICHLAND
- Leslie Road. Preliminary engineering is in progress for the improvement of Leslie Road from Meadow Hills Drive to Clearwater Avenue. The project will widen the roadway, add a center turn lane, sidewalk, curb and gutter, and bike lanes. A new at-grade, signal protected, railroad crossing will be constructed. A construction date has not been set.
- Center Boulevard. Center Boulevard is a planned future roadway from Steptoe Street to Leslie Road. There is no funding for the planning, design, or construction of this project, and no specific schedule for when the roadway would be designed or constructed.
- Bellerive Drive. Bellerive Drive is a planned future roadway from Broadmore Street to Center Boulevard. There is no funding for the planning, design or construction of this project, and no specific schedule for when the roadway would be designed or constructed.
KENNEWICK
- Center Parkway Extension. The Cities of Kennewick and Richland have been planning the extension of Center Parkway from Gage Blvd to Tapteal Drive for several years. The project is in the planning phase, and negotiations have been on going with the three railroad companies that own the railroad tracks that the Center Parkway Extension would cross. The project will include construction of a two-lane roundabout at the intersection of Center Parkway and Gage Blvd. The roundabout construction is scheduled for spring of 2007. The timetable for the construction of the street extension is uncertain at this time.
- Grandridge Blvd and Center Parkway Intersection. This project is part of the City of Kennewick's aggressive program to improve safety and/or traffic capacity at high use and/or high accident intersections in the City. A roundabout has been designed by the City of Kennewick Engineering section of the Municipal Services Department, and will include street realignments, grade revisions, and landscape enhancements. This project will be constructed in mid-2006.
